The
Doctrines of Charles T. Russell: Unassailable
Charles Taze Russell of
Allegheny Pennsylvania spent 40 years writing 50 thousands of pages of
highly detailed treatises on Bible doctrine, exhortation, and witness
work for Christ in the interest of the saints, as well as for the
world. His million mile speaking tour was in thesingular message of the Holiness of GOD, and His Majesty, His Love, Justice, Wisdom and Power, and the benevolent Divine Plan of the Ages spoken of by the Apostles and Prophets before them, presenting the Great doctrine of the Ransom, that the Blood of Jesus is efficacious to save all mankind who are willing. This broadcaster par excellence was seen and heard the world over. He gave up a life as a business tycoon in order to spend his life in service to God and His Christ, for far greater heavenly rewards. PASTOR Russell's enemies, after scouring his works for flaws in his DOCTRINE, have found this: a rather obscure mention of Astronomers findings in the late 1800's, stating that the Pleiades seemed a likely center point for the Universe. Russell printed these findings in his publication, adding what he termed only a "suggestion"on his part that this "maybe" corroborated the statements of Job regarding the Pleiades, regarding the location of the direction of the Heavenly Throne. There is nothing wrong with this idea, incidentally, as modern astronomy bears this out: The direction for the stellar equatorial North pole is indeed the Pleiades. It's just that the critics don't know this, and believe only the science known at the time the book was written against Russell, from which they copy their argument! Said book was written in the late-middle 20th century, at a time before the recent Hubble confirmations, back at a time when scientists still entertained malformed ideas and false assumptions about the size and scope of our universe. The problem they thusly find with the Pastor's "doctrine" is this: Russell, if he were truly close to God, would have known that only the science of 1956 would ever be valid! Another fault was then found with Russell's DOCTRINE(?): A certain minister of a denominational Church in Memphis in the late 1800's gave details of his symptoms of what is now known as Vitaligo(sp?) - a skin ailment made well known by pop star Michael Jackson, who has publicly talked on television of how his brown skin has gradually turned to blotchy white patches. They did not have a name for the disease back then. This minister was sure that God was turning his skin from black to white in answer to his prayer. He was not a "Russellite" as his enemies like to use the term. Russell simply chose to add the small national news clipping to his publication. He had a few speculative thoughts of his own as to what this could all be about, but he was in no greater enlightenment than the rest of the general public on the rare unnamed skin diseases of black people, and THAT, so the critics claim, is the problem with Russell's DOCTRINE. His ignorance of what is now known as the Michael Jackson disease has, so they believe, given his enemies license to label him a racist! So while methodist ministers of his day were saying black people were the beasts on the ark, and the white people were Noah's sons, Russell debated and refuted them. While Churches often fanned flames of bigotry, holding even written doctrines of racism and white supremacy, Russell made sure that blacks and whites both joined in the Lord's service equally and were regarded as "brethren." Sure there were separatist attitudes, and I'm sure Russell could not have been perfect in that regard. After all, it was America in the 1800's. Yet for a man of his day, his outspokenness made him a target of racist groups, and he helped pioneer civil rights. The enemies will dig up and repair another odd quote from Russell, and make it seem Russell held a view far different than the spirit of the context from which it was torn, far different from the writings of the man on a whole, and very different from the man that was know then as now, as kindly and impartial, as even his enemies of HIS OWN day publicly acknowledged! So these are the DOCTRINAL(?) concerns that have been raised. Very interesting. (*Yawn:>O) My only question, dear critics, is: How is it, precisely, that these trivial oddities of self-admitted mere speculation on his part, how is it that these tiny unimportant quips about what any reasonable eye would see are completely side issues, how is it that these are to be considered as DOCTRINE, or as any part of DOCTRINE? Can it be? Russell harsh critics simply do not have one intelligent thing to say about the REAL BIBLE DOCTRINES, and so are forced to go seeking another means of attack. Some side questions would be, can't they see how utterly out in left field they seem with this line of "thinking"? Is it thinking? Is it reasoning? Is it fair and balanced in any way? C.T.R. wrote 50,000 pages on: ONE GOD, the Ransom and Restitution, the Election of the Church, the Two Salvations, the Resurrection of Christ, the condition of the dead in "Sheol" - the Kingdom Come, Zion’s Returning Favor.... These, my friends, are DOCTRINES. They are Russell doctrines, yes, because they are Bible doctrines. They are also MY doctrines, because I see them in the Bible. If you find something in the Bible that is true, make it YOUR doctrine. That's what Russell would and did say. I invite you to read what Russell actually wrote FIRST.. At this link you can read "Studies in the Scriptures" including "The Divine Plan of the Ages" online now. These books have been a great joy of blessing to many countless thousands. OR! you can go to your nearest "Christian" bookstore, and find some more completely misrepresented and out of context trivia about 19th century science etc., as well as some outright lies of all kinds about this fine Christian gentleman and scholar, Charles Taze Russell. The choice belongs to your own conscience. Don't be swayed by those critics who are so out-classed by such a great brother in Christ as Charles Russell was. These whose own conscience is seared and in their blind rage are confounded like foaming waves falling into the sand before a solid rock beach of stoic beauty, which are BIBLE DOCTRINES. And it was TOPICAL BIBLE STUDY which then ultimately has made them Pastor CHARLES TAZE RUSSELL'S DOCTRINES, which are also MY DOCTRINES, that I love, because they come from GOD, who gave His Only Begotten Son. These are the Doctrines that I read in His Word. Psalm 150. Read "The Jewish Mass Meeting": Pastor Russell's speech before an all Jewish audience at New York's sold out Hippodrome |
