YHWH in the New Testament?
With Respect,
It has been argued that the word YHWH is not used in the New Testament,
thus
opening the door to the concept that either Jesus is perhaps YHWH, or
that
God the Father is not exclusively YHWH, but perhaps a sort of composite
being. A little common sense will dispel these notions when we remember
just how
many times Jesus and the Apostles quoted the Hebrew Bible, our "Old
Testament."
There
were yet no Greek Scriptures when they did so, and certainly no English
ones. The only reasonable conclusion is that Jesus and the Apostles,
who
were Hebrews, used the word YHWH when directly quoting the Hebrew
Scriptures.
Jesus said unto them, have ye never read in the
Scriptures, 'the stone which the builders rejected, the same is become
the head of the corner: This is the Lord's (YHWH) doing, and it is
marvellous in our eyes?'" Matthew 21:42
Compare
this with its counterpart in Psalm 118:22-23 and remember, the divine
name
- the tetragrammaton "YHWH" - is the original word that has
been replaced
- hidden actually - by the word "LORD" in our Common Version. Some
translations
have endeavored to remain faithful to the original text, such as
Rotherham's
excellent work. There are many other instances like this passage in the
book of Matthew alone.
The
most obvious one to the point is Psalm 110:1, which is directly quoted
by Jesus in Matthew 22:44. Rather than saying "The LORD said unto my
Lord"
- which the english King James Version offers with a large measure of
confusion,
(especially if you don't realize that "LORD" in all CAPS is supposed to
indicate
"YHWH", while lower case stands in place of another word) it really
should
read as follows:
YHWH said unto Adonai, 'sit thou at my right hand till
I
make thine enemies my footstool...'"
Again,
the Master states that it was David who said it - through the Holy
Spirit no less. David was a Hebrew, and the original Hebrew Scriptures
used
the divine name, and most certainly not our english word "Lord", nor
any
Hebrew replacement word, which came about later from their growing
superstition about pronouncing the divine name.
The
simple deduction is that YHWH is our heavenly Father of the New
Testament,
while Jesus is the one He sent, and together in heaven, Jesus
sits
at the Father's right hand. They are two separate and distinct beings, of
course! [see John 8:16-18]

No glory can compare to that of the Father.
Can you provide even one verse that says that the Father gave Jesus His
SAME
"glory"? He certainly glorified the Son, but never does it say it was
the
SAME glory as the Father!
It seems that in order for your view to hold up it requires the sliding
Jesus
rule I see so often from discussing the nature of Jesus with
trinitarians.
He must continually "shift in and out" of roles depending on what verse
is
being looked at.
Meanwhile, we have a logical, progressive divine Plan of the ages, with
no
need to use differing "angles" of looking at Jesus' role. He is, and
always
will be subject to the Father as God's own servant, albeit the
mightiest
one of all. He is not the "Most High YHWH", nor equal to Him.
We need not change any words in the Scriptures to maintain the
consistency
of this view, but allow me to take liberties with the punctuation a
bit,
which is not inspired to begin with, but a relatively recent invention
-
in order to further prove that:
"... to us there is One God: The Father. And, one "Lord Jesus Christ'".
